Why Federation with La Republic now is failure on us
It has been a violent and fearful atmosphere in the Southern Cameroons since November 21st 2016 when the teachers stood up and undertook a sit-down strike against the Francophonisation of the Anglo-Saxon system of Education by the Yaounde Biya's dictatorial regime. This was coming just a month after the common-law Lawyers stage a protest in October against the francophonisation of the common law system. English courts being ruled by French magistrates and judges. This protest that was stage in Bamenda and Buea turned violent with intervention of the La Republic forces of insecurity.
In November when the teachers called for a sit-strike, they asked the parents, pupils and students as well as the entire population of Southern Camaroon to stand up as one man and save the Anglo-Saxon system of Education from being completely eradicated.
This call by the teacher's trade unions did not fall on deaf ears. It went and fall on the ears of an angry population that took to the street to match and protest against the Biya's dictatorial regime in Yaounde. Even though street protest was not in the agenda of the strike called for by the Teacher's Trade Unions, it was noticed that the people were angry in almost every aspect of life.
On the street, they met with stiff resistance from the forces of insecurity of la Republic. These forces of insecurity used Water canons, tear gas, flogged and used live bullets on armless protesters.
The Coffin Revolution
One of the champions of the street protest in Bamenda was Mancho Bibixy who currently behind bars in the prisons of La Republic alongside hundreds of Southern Cameroonians arbitrary arrested and detained.
Mancho Bibixy who is a radio presenter and comedian took to the street with fans to protest against the poor roads in the City of Bamenda. He carried a coffin and could be heard saying Kill me and Bury in this coffin.
Him and his supporters faced the same opposition from Police.
Abduction of our Brothers and mass killing
In cameroon whose army belongs to Francophones, Our Brothers can be tortured to whatever extend and nobody seems to care. Our people who have been suffering in the hands of La Republic for the past 55years could still be shot with guns. Our Brothers Abducted and transported to Yaounde overnight. As if this was not enough, La Republic launch the arrest of the leaders of the Anglophones Teachers Trade Union as well as the Leaders of the Common Law and declared their merger association the Anglophone Civil Society Consortium null and void.
No internet for 94 days
As if it was not enough, La Republic decided to cut-off internet services from the Southern Caneroon in January 17 2017. Despite calls from the entire population of Cameroun and the international community for the government to restore the internet, everything was always falling on deaf or ears unwillingness. It was on April 20 when the poor government through their dictatorial ruler decided to restore the internet services after being pressured by the toothless bold dog UN. Busineses that depend on internet suffered during this period. Cyber Cafes were shut down and the owners became jobless. Startups suffered as they tend to be migrating to areas with internet access which added their expenses.
Where are we now?
When this struggle began in November, the initiators of strike action demanded for Federation as the only way out for Anglophone marginalization. They faced a lot of resistance from the government that wanted to do things its onw way. When we realized that the government was not ready for any negotiation with us, people then resulted an independence struggle. We've gone very far in the struggle for independence. Through this, must people have been able to realize that restoration of Statehood is the absolute way out to bringing long lasting peace to the angry people. This can be seen in the following ways
- Boycott of the plebecite day (youth day)
- Boycott of National and International celebrations.
- Boycott of the reunification day (20th May)
These are clear signs that the people have taken their own destiny into their own hands and no turning back.
